Mystery Train on BayFM 99.9

Mystery Train is a long running "roots music" programme on Community Radio presented by Sista Mary

I had the name in my head years before ... Elvis Presley's Mystery Train Sun recording (1955), then going back to the original from Little Junior's Blue Flames (Junior Parker) also on Sun Records from 1953. A classic train song with lyrics based on The Carter Family's Worried Man Blues (1930), which was based on a much older Celtic ballad. Greil Marcus wrote Mystery Train: Images of America in Rock 'n' Roll Music "Probably the best book written about rock" - Rolling Stone.

Mystery Train began on Community Radio Station 2BBB in Bellingen in 1997. A long held dream was realised when I took part in an 8 week Training Programme, then got my own show. It has always been about turning listeners onto "great country music" and many other styles of "roots music".

In 2003, I relocated to Byron Bay and became involved with BayFM 99.9, the most Easterly Station in the Nation! Starting as one of the Office Co-Ordinators, I learnt as much as I could about this wonderful Community Station. Back then it was housed in 'The Love Shack' and had a very Byron vibe. Mystery Train went to air in 2004 and has evolved over the years into a programme featuring many Australian "roots artists", lots of Americana, folk, blues, soul and all the different musical styles from Texas and Louisiana. It's all about Soulful Performance.

Saturday Mornings 10am - noon is when you can tune in to hear the very best "roots music" around, as the Mystery Train pulls out of the station. | Mystery Train Playlists | |
